Cast of Spongebob the Musical at Seedling Theatre Company 2024

Hi, I’m Kris Blake! For right now, I’ll most likely be your instructor for any of the classes you might chose to take, so here is a little information about me and how I came to develop Mobile Creativity.

I have been an artist from a very young age—drawing paper dolls, decorating dollhouses, sewing clothes for me and my Barbies—I did it all. I wanted to be a fashion designer  growing up and wore some very unique ensembles (sewn by me, of course) in my high school years. It turns out, I wasn’t super thrilled with flat pencil drawings and swapped majors from Art to Youth Leadership my freshman year at BYU. I graduated with a BS in Youth Agency Administration, choosing to work with kids pretty much for the rest of my life in my employment and through church volunteer positions.

I got married at the ripe old age of 20 and had 3 children who kept me very busy and who are all grown up now. The youngest, my daughter, Kalena, pulled me into the world of musical theatre at age 4 and she is still pursuing a career on the stage.

I have always loved to teach and feel perfectly at home in front of an audience or a class and I am grateful for all the opportunities to improve those skills throughout my life.

I have worked as a Graduate student teacher at BYU, as a Camp Director for the National Parks Council of Boy Scouts of America, a theatre teacher and admin for Broadway Kids Academy, and a Pre-K and drama teacher at American Heritage Academy. In 2017 I started Seedling Theatre Company in Henderson, NV,  a youth performing arts conservatory that continues to thrive and grow under new ownership today. After 8 years of directing, teaching, designing costumes and sets, writing plays and working with hundreds of wonderful kids and families, I was happy, but exhausted, and needed to slow my life down to a more manageable pace. I wasn’t prepared for the profound creative withdrawal I faced when I walked out the door of my labor of love for the last time. I’ve since turned a spare bedroom into an art studio in my house and the front room into a sewing haven, and I just make beautiful stuff. Everyday.

I love quilting and sewing and putting on themed parties. I love to write and enjoy good books, intelligent movies, and going to the theatre (especially in NY). And I really love sharing my passions and skills with others. So here I am again, doing what I love to do. I can’t wait to work with you and your families and together find the joy inherent in the arts.
